A MAN who has been wanted since an assault on a police officer at Synod Inn on Saturday, February 9 has now been arrested.

The 24-year-old was arrested by Sussex Police last night (Friday, February 15). He is currently in police custody and Dyfed-Powys Police officers are heading to Sussex.

A search for the man has been ongoing since last Saturday afternoon, when a police officer was assaulted after stopping a car in Synod Inn. There was a huge police presence in Cardigan the following day in the hunt for the man.

The officer is making steady progress in his recovery, but is still unable to return to work.

A second man who was in the car – Wayne Dobson, aged 29 – was charged with assault causing actual bodily harm, criminal damage, aggravated vehicle taking and vehicle damage, and two counts of taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent.

He has appeared at court and was remanded until his next hearing.

Chief Superintendent Peter Roderick said: “I am pleased to confirm the arrest of this man, following a long and intense operation to locate him.

“This operation has involved departments across Dyfed-Powys Police, as well as colleagues from other police forces as we focused on locations outside our area.

“We understand that there has been a high level of concern in our communities since the weekend, and we would like to thank the public for their patience.

“I would also like to thank all the police officers and staff who have been concerned in the operation, for their diligence, professionalism and commitment to keeping our communities safe.

“Frequent contact has been made with the injured police officer, and we wish him a speedy recovery.”
