HISTORY in our Hands is a community art project celebrating what makes our county town such a unique and special place.

Every afternoon during the February half term, from Tuesday, February 26 to Saturday, March 2, artist Pip Lewis will be running free family friendly art workshops at spacetocreate in Haverfordwest.

“From the Greyhound Inn to the Temperance Hall, Haverfordwest is blessed with more than its fair share of beautiful and historic buildings.” said Pip.

“Over the last few years a significant number have been restored with support from Pembrokeshire County Council’s Haverfordwest Townscape Initiative and the Heritage Lottery Fund. The workshops will use old and contemporary photographs, alongside digital applications such as google maps, combined with simple drawing, tracing and collage techniques to build a unique picture of the town.”

The work created during the spring half-term holiday will be shown in an exhibition throughout March accompanying the launch of Building stories – a new book of poems also celebrating the town’s heritage by local author Kerry Steed.

The workshops are drop-in, running between 2pm and 4.30pm and are suitable for adults and children ages 7 + and all abilities.

All materials will be provided (bring along a tablet or smartphone if you have one).
