A ST ISHMAELS man took his own life after a night drinking with his partner and family, an inquest has heard.

Oliver Radford Kimpton, aged 27, was found dead at his home on Saturday, October 13 by his partner.

At the Thursday, February 21 inquest, held at Milford Haven Town Hall, Coroner’s Officer for Dyfed-Powys Police Jeremy Davies said that Mr Kimpton had gained direction in life after getting boating-related qualifications, with plans to marry his partner.

The inquest heard that Mr Kimpton had shown signs of mental ill health over the years, including depression, which he had received counselling for, but he felt it did not help.

Mr Davies said: “Mr Kimpton had made comments to his family over the years that he was going to live hard and die young, but his family did not perceive this to be that he would take his own life.”

On Friday, October 12, 2018, Mr Kimpton enjoyed an evening drinking with his partner, his brother and his brother’s partner.

When Mr Kimpton went to bed, he and his girlfriend argued, and she decided to sleep on the sofa.

Mr Davies said that the partner was aware that he was punching walls and was quite angry, so she left the house, saying she would return in the morning when things had calmed down.

The next morning Mr Kimpton was found hanged.

Pembrokeshire Coroner Mark Layton recorded a conclusion of suicide.

He said: “Oliver Radford Kimpton consumed a moderate amount of alcohol and following a disagreement has taken deliberate steps to end his life.

“There were no clear signs he was suffering from a depressive illness and it’s not been ascertained from the evidence why he chose to do this.

“It is a terrible tragedy.”
