A public consultation is underway on a proposal to reduce the opening hours of a Pembrokeshire sports hall.

It comes as Pembrokeshire County Council’s Leisure service attempts to identify cost reductions and efficiency savings.

A survey has identified that usage at St Davids Sports Hall is very low on Thursday and Sunday mornings and the service is proposing to close the hall during these periods.

This would help meet cost reduction/efficiency savings targets and safeguard overall provision at the hall.

In addition, the facility would close on Friday evenings between 4pm & 8pm during the summer school holidays (26th July – 30th August inclusive).

Leisure service officers have spoken to St David’s City Council who accept that it would not be an effective use of funds to try to keep the hall open at these times.

“We constantly review activity across all ten of our Leisure Centres and Sports Halls and we are keen to hear the views of users of the hall and those in the wider community on the proposals before a final decision is made,” said Pembrokeshire County Council’s Head of Cultural, Leisure and Registration Services Mike Cavanagh.

“We are also interested in other ideas or suggestions people may have on ways Pembrokeshire Leisure could meet its cost reduction/efficiency savings targets.”
