Proposals for a new route to improve safety on the A40, between the Penblewin Roundabout and Redstone Cross, have been supported by Narberth Labour

Local residents were asked for their views at a two-day public consultation, after Welsh Economy and Transport Minister Ken Skates was lobbied to extend improvement measures, coinciding with the construction of the Llanddewi Velfrey bypass, using Welsh Government and the European Union funding.

Three options have been presented, one to south of the current A40, and two to the north.

Cllr Vic Dennis said: “These are very welcome proposals and whilst I appreciate that all of the options will improve the safety of the junction at Redstone Cross, only the Orange Route, Route 1 will do away with the junction completely.

“Since I was elected as councillor for Narberth, I have received numerous complaints and deeply held concerns from Narberth residents about the safety of the current junction which has a long record of road traffic collisions and near misses too numerous to mention.

"I am happy to see that there will also be opportunities to develop active travel opportunities for walkers, cyclists and horse riders as a result of these proposals.”

Marc Tierney, Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate added: “I am pleased that the Welsh Government has listened to our concerns in bringing forward this project as part of the Llanddewi Velfrey bypass scheme. As a daily user of Redstone Cross and from regular discussion with local residents, the main concern has been the safety of the Redstone Cross junction.

"Before any plans can get the final go ahead full impact assessments will need to be undertaken. An advantage of the Orange Route is that a bridge will preserve access between Bethesda and Narberth whilst adding additional lanes, east and westbound along the A40.”

Marc Tierney and Cllr Vic Dennis are asking anyone who wasn't able to attend the public consultation but wishes to express a view on the plans to contact them by calling 01267 668365 or emailing A40views@marctierney.wales as soon as possible.
