A PEMBROKE Dock man left his victim with serious facial injuries from a single punch.

Aaron Davies, aged 22, punched Luca Giannuzzi to his face and he fell backwards and banged his head, leading to a fractured eye socket.

Davies, of Brittania Drive, admitted causing grievous bodily harm. He was jailed for 10 months, suspended for 12 months, and ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid work and 20 days of a rehabilitation activity.

Davies was also ordered to pay Mr Giannuzzi £2,500 compensation.

Judge Keith Thomas, sitting at Swansea crown court, said the incident began when Mr Giannuzzi reacted badly to Davies being at the home of his former partner in the Glebelands, Hakin.

That confrontation, said Judge Thomas, appeared to come to an end and the two men shook hands.

But Davies then punched his victim from behind or when he wasn't looking and knocked him unconscious, either as a result of the blow or the fall to the ground.

Mr Gianuzzi needed surgery and the insertion of a metal plate into his face.

Judge Thomas said the consequences of the assault could have been "very much more serious than they were."

But he accepted that Davies had no previous convictions and that the attack was out of character.
