AN EPIC fundraising cycle ride planned for next month had a somewhat gentler warm-up on Sunday, May 12, with its little brother attracting some 60 cyclists on a charity ride from Tenby to Cardigan.

Dai Morgan is planning a team cycle ride of 272 miles from Harrogate to Tenby in 36 hours from June 21 in memory of grandparents Sue and Eddie Hare, raising funds for the British Heart Foundation under the name Harten400.

The run-up event itself raised £710 for the charity.

Speaking about Sunday’s ride, Dai said: “As we left Tenby the sun was shining we knew it was going to be a good day.

“Quietly surprised by the 30-odd riders who showed up we then picked up another 15.5 miles in...and more and more joined in.

“We crossed three counties had lots of giggles and were loving the sun on our backs, all by the time we reached Cardigan, and then there were over 60 riders while in Cardigan; we were overwhelmed by the hospitality of Lynne and Adam at Cardigan Bay holiday park.

“The food and drinks were just what we all needed, and plenty of it. On top of this they didn’t charge us a penny, thank you both so much.

“What amazed us the most was how many clubs from around Pembrokeshire came today to support us all in the love of cycling and we thank you all, not to mention the single riders.

“We raised £710 today all for The British Heart Foundation, just unbelievable. Not in our wildest dreams when we set out in the morning we thought we would hit that amount.

“Once again thank you all, be proud what you have helped to achieve and the lives your helping to save. For us as a team we now turn our attention to the big ride on June 21.”
