Rose and Willow Golf Society tournament

THE Rose and Willow golf society held their second tournament of the year at Milford Haven Golf club on Friday 4th October. The tournament was organised by Owain Picton and sponsored by the landlady and landlord of the pub, Mandy and Lea with prizes from Claire of Coors Brewery. This was the sixteenth tournament held by the Rose & Willow with the first one being held in 2005 all played at Milford Haven golf club.

With the course back to its best after the hollow coring and sanding which was carried out early part of September; with the lush fairways (when hit) and true greens after the very heavy rain on the previous few days; once again the weather was kind to the golfers and guests with the sun shinning for part of the round the main thing is that it did not rain which was a good thing for Owain as he had to postponed the tournament from the Friday before (dry and sunny) because of his own golf commitments.

They was an excellent turn out on the day with members and guests enjoying an excellent day both on the course and also back at the Rose & Willow pub; Neyland.

First time overall winner on the day was Chris Busby with 41 points and his name will be added to the John Greggain winners shield. In runners -up spot was Mark Molyneux with 39 points.

In the guests section this was won by David Murphy with 37 points; who scored 21 points of his 37 on the last seven holes (two birdies; four pars and a bogey) after failing to score on the first two holes on the back nine; to win by one shot from Richard Brock showing his consistency in runners-up spot with 36 points.

In the twos competition Steve George was the only golfer to score a two and he did it on the 6th hole Badgers by chipping into the hole from out of the grass bunker.

The two nearest the pins on the 6th and 16th holes was won by Nigel Hadfield but; Nigel never took advantage of his closeness to the hole and failed to slot either of the balls for a two. Tim Roberts hit a huge drive on the 18th hole to win the longest drive prize.

The presentation was held back at the Rose and Willow, with Owain Picton announcing the winners, he thanked Mandy and Lea for their sponsorship before asking Mandy the landlady of the Rose and Willow to present the prizes.

The winners main prizes were provided by Mandy and Lea, with other prizes being donated by Claire, of Coors Brewery, Mark Molyneux and Owain Picton.
