Who will go through in the West Wales Cup on Saturday?

By in large, I haven't a clue. And yeah, I know that's an open goal for jokes at my expense.

What I mean of course is some ties are difficult to predict given most Pembrokeshire sides are playing teams from other regional leagues, with little knowledge of opponents. And so much will come down to how strong travelling teams are.

There are three all Pembrokeshire ties mind, but I often wonder how teams feel about this. Half the fun of it is a good away day, a bus trip, and nodding off (passing out) long before you've reached the queue of Eddie Rocks.

Carew and Goodwick meanwhile, both enjoy byes, and they meet in a crucial game in Division 1.

Anyway here goes nothing. Predictions for Saturday.......

Division 1:

Having seared early season, The Rooks are now being tested and they responded from that loss to St Clears with a hard fought 2-1 win at Saundersfoot on Saturday.

But even at this early stage, this one looks vital. Win, and Carew go back top. Lose, and they fall four points behind the Phoenix Boys.

Much has been made of their attacking threat and via the Christopher boys, Scott Ferney, and others, they have the players to cause Goodwick problems.

But keeper Tom Davies made crucial saves in that win last week and Iwan Izzard's form was rewarded with a place in the Pembrokeshire side that won in midweek, so to simply focus on their forward play is misleading. Their line up now looks strong all round and this is a big test for the league leaders.

Wayne O'Sullivan's team do remain unbeaten despite the absence of a regular goalie - although Patrick Hughes has more than adequately filled in.

Jordan Griffiths continues to fire up front and the return of Rob Morgans will only serve to strengthen their midfield options. I'd expect both Lee Hudgell and O'Sullivan himself to come back into the starting XI as well, after both began on the bench last Saturday following also playing for the county on the Wednesday.

They had to be patient before eventually putting Herbie away 4-0 last week, but the Phoenix Boys do have the mentality to grind out results regardless of performance, as shown at Pennar three weeks ago.

They won with a late goal at Carew last season, and I can see a similar type of game and result this time around.
