South Wales Women’s Hockey League Division 1: Milford Haven 0-0 Whitchurch Saints

After promotion last season, Milford Haven Hockey Ladies started life in Division 1 with an impressive display and a point against the Whitchurch Saints.

In a high tempo game the home side created the majority of the chances, but some good goalkeeping from the Saints’ stopper denied them from taking the lead in the first half.

But then it took a crucial save midway through the second half by Milford keeper Emile Zatac to keep the home side on level terms.

The game was end to end and played at an intense pace, and yet there was little in the way of opportunities in the final quarter as honours finished even.

And for their first outing in Division 1 it was a positive all round performance from the home side, captained by new skipper Rachel Coe, with debuts for youngsters Alice Wonnacott and Lucy Macintosh, who looked comfortable at senior level.

“We now know the standard to expect and look forward to the challenge ahead,” said Emma Summons.

Milford’s next fixture is this Saturday, October 6th, away to Dinefwr. Pushback is 11am.

The squad have also issued a big thankyou to the ‘Get the Boys a Lift’ charity for supplying their warm up t-shirts.

Via social media the club said:”It’s a great charity doing a fantastic job of raising awareness of mental health in our community.”
