Division Three West A: Haverfordwest 23-12 Neyland

It was a big win for Haverfordwest as 18 points from centre Craig Barnett helped Haverfordwest overcome Neyland in a clash where the home forwards laid the foundation with set-piece domination.

It meant a second straight league defeat for Neyland who for the first time in the campaign, they failed to notch a bonus point but they do still lie top of Division Three West A.

The Blues were 16-0 ahead at the break and if it wasn’t for some brave All Black defensive work alongside some sloppy home handling they could have been even further in front.

Haverfordwest put the pressure on early after skipper Mikey Jones kicked deep into the corner - and a superb try saving tackle from All Black full back Tom Hughes on Liam Manwaring kept things scoreless.

But the home side did cross after a cross-field kick by skipper Jones bounced into the hands of winger Ben Alba and he in turn found Barnett - who went over by the posts before also converting.

Barnett then proceeded to nail three penalties before the break to make it 16-0 at half time - but after the break Neyland finally built up a head of steam and prop Luke Griffiths-Dawes rounded off heavy pressure with an unconverted try.

But Steve Barnett's men regained the initiative as replacement prop Jamie Zambas picked up from a ruck and buried over, Barnett cconverting to make it 23-7.

That effectively ended the contest but the All Blacks did grab another late score after a powerful run from second row Nathan Banner set up replacement hooker Craig Power for a try - and George Evans added the extras.
