Division One West: Felinfoel 39-20 Whitland

Felinfoel extended their lead at the top of Division One but were given a stern test by Whitland before pulling away in the final quarter.

The Foel led 19-13 at half time and eventually ran out 39-20 winners to secure their eighth league win in nine starts, but The Borderers would have taken heart from an improved away display.

The visitors crossed early with a corner try from winger Liam Price, superbly converted by No 10 Nico Setaro who also landed two first half penalties.

But the home side grabbed three tries themselves through flanker Josh Skelding, scrum half Luke Marsh and young centre Eray Wilson - with No 10 Aled Roberts landing two conversions.

The Borderers again scored out wide in the second half as winger Llyr Ebsworth touched down, Setaro again adding the extras, and remained in the contest for much of the second half before the home side finished strongly.

There were tries for No 8 Curtis Morris and flanker Jordan Evans, and the boot of Roberts did the rest as he landed both conversions and kicked two penalties.

But there were positives for Whitland coaches Gareth Bennett and Dan Mason, and they will target a win this Saturday when they host winless Kidwelly at Parc Llwyn Ty Gwyn.

“We were beaten but we will take encouragement from that,” said Mason afterwards.

“The final score didn’t reflect our performance.”
