West Wales Cup Round 3: Sandfields 1-4 Goodwick United
Centre back Scott Delaney claimed his second hat-trick at senior level to guide cup holders Goodwick United to a convincing victory at Sandfields as they strolled into the last 16.
But it looked like a tough day was in store as the home side took the lead through Josh Davies, who converted an early penalty.
Goodwick were then awarded a penalty of their own but Jordan Griffiths saw his effort saved, but midway through the half the visitors equalised when Delaney headed home at the far post.
Ten minutes later and Kieran O’Brien also headed in from inside the box and on 34 minutes, Delaney nodded home Steff Hayes’ long throw as the visitors moved 3-1 ahead at half time.
The Phoenix Lads controlled possession and territory in the second period, and were duly awarded another penalty in the 75th minute - this time Delaney took responsibility and he made no mistake from 12 yards as the holders moved into the last 16.
“We had a shaky start,” admitted Goodwick player boss Wayne O’Sullivan.
“But once we weathered the early storm and settled, in the end we won quite comfortably.”
O’Sullivan added: “The only thing we lost was the drinking race in the bar afterwards. It was my fault as I’m useless at downing a pint!”
