Senior Cup Round 2: Merlins Bridge 5-1 Herbrandston

Adam Hawkins grabbed two goals to secure Merlins Bridge a convincing victory over Herbrandston in their cup-tie at The Racecourse.

Sean Thomas’ Herbie outfit battled hard and they only trailed by one-goal at half time and levelled soon after, but then Bridge upped the ante as they grabbed four further goals to seal their cup victory.

Hawkins opened the scoring in the 24th minute, but a minute after the interval and Herbie skipper Scott Reid equalised from a quickly taken free kick.

Hawkins restored the Wizards’ lead in the 54th minute and five minutes later Nathan Greene was on target with goal number three.

Joe Leahy made no mistake with the fourth and substitute Ashley Beck drilled in the fifth to complete the scoring.

Merlins Bridge will now face holders Hakin United in the quarter-final in a crunch last eight tie at The Racecourse, with the date to be confirmed.
