Manderwood Pembrokeshire League Division 1: Carew 2-2 Merlins Bridge

Third versus fourth in table was billed the match of the day in Division 1, and it didn’t disappoint as this end-to-end clash between Carew and Merlins Bridge ended in all square.

It was the Wizards who had the better of the first half, dominating possession and territory as the Rooks were constantly kept on the back foot.

Will Haworth broke the deadlock in the 26th minute, the young striker scoring with a close range volley that gave his side a one-goal cushion at half time.

However, after the interval it was the Rooks who began to get on top and were rewarded when Jordan Richards equalised midway through the second period. Substitute Alex Bayley’s cross was turned in by the deadly striker from eight yards out.

In the 76th minute the hosts took the lead. Lloyd Hughes made no mistake when he slotted past Gary Thomas in a one-on-one with the Wizards keeper.

But the visitors refused to lie down and sealed a point when they grabbed an equaliser in the 81st minute.

Nathan Greene scored a bullet header from a half cleared corner which flew in the top corner of Tom Davies’ net.

This was an important result for both teams who both remain in the hunt for the title.
