Manderwood Pembrokeshire League Division 2:Fishguard Sports 4-1 Johnston

Fishguard remain in the driving seat of the Division Two title race after seeing off Johnston at Tregroes.

The Sports struck twice in each half to stay top on goal difference from Merlins Bridge, but with two games in hand.

However it was the Tigers who missed a golden chance in the first minute as Steve Mills’ cross fell to an unmarked Ryan Doyle at the back post, but he could only prod wide.

But 10 minutes in Fishguard took the lead as Niall Kinsella's through ball set up Matt Harries, and ran he clear before slotting cooly past Jim Payne.

The Sports doubled their lead on the half hour mark as a long free kick into the box found Steve Lewis, whose cushioned header teed up Lewis Banks on the edge of the area and he drove a shot home.

Just after the break Doyle had another chance for Johnston as he raced through on goal but could only put his effort wide.

Fishguard then duly killed the match off on the hour mark when Anthony Couzens rose unchallenged at a corner to head in the third.

And it soon became 4-0 up as Niall Kinsella curled a super free kick over the wall and gave Payne no chance.

Johnston got one back in the 85th minute through a corner which was played to Joey George on the edge of the box, and the midfielder chipped home keeper Dean Hopson from 18 yards.

Fishguard did almost get a fifth though at the death but Kinsella curled another free kick past the post.
