Division Two West: Tycores 23-18 St Clears

Another improved display from St Clears saw them narrowly miss out on a win in Tycroes after a late red card to winger Will Davies.

The visitors got a bad start as after home scrum half Lee Griffiths was off target with a penalty, straight after centre Elgan Griffiths crossed for a try and the No 9 converted.

Full back James Davies hit back with athre points for St Clears but the visitors were conceding too many penalties themselves, and Evans landed one of them to make it 10-3.

Dafydd Walters was the yellow carded for St Clears before a second Tycroes try, as Lee Evans intercepted a pass on half way and sped to the corner.

At 15-3 it looked belak for St Clears but the return of Walters triggered a recovery and 10 minutes before half time centre Jac Howells, making his senior debut having been youth captain at the club, finished off some excellent handling with a try, duly converted by full back Davies.

Howells then recorded his second try ten minutes later to level the scores at 15-15 half time.

It was end to end after the restart but neither side could register the telling score - although a penalty attempt from each went begging before Evans ended the stalemate with his second try to put Tycroes five points ahead.

Davies cut the arrears to two points with a penalty and then tensions boiled over, twith both teams having a yellow card followed by a red for the visitors to Will Davies.

The home side then had the last word through another Griffiths penalty to edge his side home.
