Division 2: Hakin United 2nds 1-2 Merlins Bridge 2nds

A goal from Paul Thomas took Merlins Bridge 2nds top of Division 2 as they ended Hakin’s unbeaten home run.

The Vikings have gone through their last two league campaigns without losing at The Obs and had maintained that record this season, but after taking the lead through Billy Davis - were undone by second half goals from Luke Hayward and Thomas.

After a tight opening it was Davis who put his side ahead in scrappy fashion after the visitors failed to clear their lines from a corner.

It stayed that way until the hour mark when the Wizards enjoyed a dominant spell that yielded two goals.

Hakin defender Jonathan Fawcett mistimed a tackle in his area and Hayward, who like Davis was playing as he was cup tied for the first team, levelled matters from the spot.

And then it was centre back Thomas who scored what proved to be the winner from close range.

With Fishguard having their game called off at Broad Haven, the win takes Bridge three points clear at the top - although they have played three more games than the Sports.

Hakin remain third, but are now eight points off the pace and retaining their title now appears unlikely.
