Manderwood Pembrokeshire League Division 2: Fishguard Sports 6-1 Solva

Fishguard took another step towards a return to Division 1 football on Saturday with a big win over Solva.

The Sports were relegated from the top flight in 2004 and a turbulent period followed, but this latest victory leaves them second and despite being three points off Merlins Bridge 2nds, they have three games in hand on the leaders.

Everywhere in Pembrokeshire was affected by inclement weather on Saturday including Tregroes Park, and it made for a scrappy first half where the only goal came from Fishguard striker Matt Harries against his former club.

The visitors then lost keeper Aled Davies to injury at half time and the hosts went up a notch, with Harries teeing up Niall Kinsella to make it 2-0 after 50 minutes.

Lewis Banks headed in the third from a corner and then Steve Lewis fired past replacement keeper Aaron Foster as the Sports turned the screw.

But then after home keeper Dean Hopson was penalised for taking too long with the ball in his hands, Solva responded with a well worked move from an indirect free kick - Harry Elliott providing the finish.

Keegan Summers swiftly restored order with the fifth goal for the hosts though, following up the rebound after Foster had saved from Anthony Couzens, and then Tom Lawrence completed the win with a goal late on.
