The 12th RNLI Annual Fishing Open, organised by members from Pembroke & District Angling Club, Osprey Sea Angling Club and Saundersfoot Sea Angling Club, was held on Sunday 20th January on Amroth beach in South Pembrokeshire.

The winning angler, who managed to land the 5 Flounder for 1Kg 940gms, was the Air Ambulance winner from a fortnight previously Haydn Cole from Lamphey, netting him the first prize of £200.

Second, who had the biggest fish, a Lesser Spotted Dogfish of 835gms, allowing him to pick up the runner’s up prize of £100, was another local, Gwyn Davies from Pembroke Dock.

In third place was a regular for these competitions, from Bridgend, Jeff Stephens with 3 Flounder for 960gms, winning him £50.

Also, this year both a Lady and a Junior managed to weigh in, a Flounder of 430gms for Finan Williams, netting him the junior prize and two for 670gms netting Alison George the Ladies prize.

The Pairs Competition was won by Haydn and Mark Bennett, again as 2 weeks previously, with 6 Flounder for 2KG 265gms. Second were Peter Evans and Kevin Hughes with a Dogfish each for 1Kg 475gms and third were Vince Davies and Phil Thomas with 3 Flounder for 1Kg 180gms.

The Steward’s draw was won by a local lad but now living in Aberdeen so had come a long way, Simon Nicholas, who also was one of the  sponsors.

However, the most important result on the day was that the event raised £687, for the local lifeboats.
