West Wales Intermediate Cup quarter final: Merlins Bridge 5-2 Plough Colts
Merlins Bridge gained an impressive victory over Swansea League Division Two Plough Colts to march into the semi-finals for only the second time in their history.
Matthew D’Ivry’s Wizards led 3-1 at the interval and kept their composure to seal a thoroughly deserved win.
In the 11th minute Bridge took the lead when Nathan Greene headed home from close range.
On 28 minutes the hosts scored again when David Davies struck a 20 yard wind assisted effort into the top corner.
However, the visitors hit back with a cracking long range effort from Paul Lewis, but the Wizards restored their two-goal advantage as Adam Hawkins fired into the roof of the net.
In the 69th minute Hawkins grabbed his second to give Bridge a comfortable 4-1 lead.
Moments later Joe Leahy lobbed the visitors’ keeper form long range for his side’s fifth, but the Colts added a late consolation goal through Callum Davies, who drilled past Gary Thomas from the penalty spot.
