Manderwood Pembrokeshire League Division 1: Herbrandston 2-4 Saundersfoot Sports

A hat trick from Richard Cope sealed an away win for Saundersfoot and in the process, confirmed Herbrandston’s relegation.

Herbie’s fate was all but mathematically sealed before kick off but they still went in with hopes of a first league win of the season, only to be 2-0 down early on.

Chris Milward struck first for the Sports as he followed up a rebound to score past home keeper Wolfgang Ackermann - before Cope headed home his first from 10 yards from a Paul Hodges cross.

The home side pulled one back though and inevitably Scott Reid was the scorer, pouncing on some hesitant defending after Sean Williams’ cross into the box.

Cope restored the two goal cushion after the break though when Herbie centre back Adrian Rees tried to chest the ball back to keeper Ackerman, but the forward nipped in to stab a shot home.

Again the home side, who were managed by Rhys Davies in the absence of Sean Thomas and Jonty Bennett, got back into it as Jamie Evans went on a run and teed up Reid to score from 12 yards.

But late on Herbie full back Williams was penalised for a foul in his own area and Cope put away the penalty.

It meant a fifth league win of the season for Saundersfoot, who still have two games left, and a return to Division Two for Herbie.

Although they also thought they had been relegated last season only for the pre-season withdrawal of Angle to reverse matters, but this time around you suspect they would welcome the chance to rebuild in the second tier.

Before that though, they finish the season with a double header with Carew this Monday and Wednesday coming.
