Division Three West A: Laugharne 25-17 Haverfordwest

Laugharne boosted their chances of a top three finish by coming through a predictably tight clash with Haverfordwest.

The home side notched four tries for a bonus point win, and may yet play a big role in the title race as they host Aberaeron on Wednesday, April 24th.

It was centre Steff Davies who gave Laugharne the lead as he sliced through for a try which he also converted – but Haverfordwest responded well when second row Gethin Thomas powered his way to the posts for Craig Barnett to add the simple extra points.

And the teams stayed locked until close to half time when second row David Thomas scored an unconverted try for Laugharne as reward for an impressive display at the contact area.

Also prominent for the home side was the front row of Rhys Thomas, Tom Waters and Gary Jones and after Davies had notched a penalty after half time there were unconverted tries by No 10 Owain Thomas and full back Ross Michael.

But Haverfordwest kept in the contest as Craig Barnett landed a penalty and then converted a try from Matty Phillips but it was Laugharne who held out, and just one win from their final two games will ensure they finish at least third.

Haverfordwest meanwhile, seem set to finish fourth, and complete their season on Saturday away to arch rivals Llangwm.
