Saturday, May 18th turned out to be a great day for Trefloyne Club Captain Simon Arthur with his 'Captain’s Scramble'.

Played in teams of four, the difference between the eventual winners and the team placed 17th was only seven shots.

The eventual winners, with a fabulous nett 58 exactly, were Pat Forrest, Julie Llama, Glen Hunter and Alan Gawith.

In second place were two teams, both on 58.2. Dave Crowley, Gerard John with Graham and Ruth Longster - along with joint runners up with Jamie and Tom Wright, playing with Arron Roberts and Jamie Robinson.

Head greenkeeper James and his team, together with club owner Kim Beynon had put in some big shifts in the days leading up to the event to get the course looking great.

The pro shop team of George and Ryan organised the groups of four and tee off times, while the Captain’s wife Claire led a team of volunteers who set up stalls at the 1st, 9th,and 10th holes, to dispense free drinks and chocolate to passing golfers.

Jane Meyrick also did sterling work in collecting money from all the golfers.

This was just one of a number of events which form part of the year long effort to raise enough money to install a defibrillator on the course at Trefloyne - and all players who hapened to drop into the bunker guarding the 10th donated a further £1 for the good cause.

There were also prizes for men’s and ladies' longest drives, nearest the pins on two holes, and nearest the line, and it all added to an enjoyable and entertaining day, that added substantially to the defibrillator fund.
