Haverfordwest County manager Wayne Jones has been extremely busy in the transfer market this summer, signing on seven new players for the forthcoming 2019-20 season.

Last season The Bluebirds finished third in the Welsh League Division 1, 26 points behind champions Penybont and manager Jones, who is closely assisted by player coach Tim Hicks, has recruited well and is hoping the new signings can quickly settle in and do the business.

The pair are quietly confident their team will compete for title silverware.

The Bridge Meadow outfit have brought in three defenders, two midfielders and two strikers to bolster the ambitious club who would love a return to the Welsh Premier.

The new recruits will be vying for positions with the likes of regulars Stephen Hall, Kyle Stuart, Jake Merry, Ben Fawcett, Jack Wilson, Elliot Thomas, Ricky Watts, Tom Dyson and skipper Sean Pemberton.

Bluebird fans will be delighted that highly rated defender Sam Rodon, 26, has returned from champions Penybont also the vastly experienced Scott Tancock, 25, another excellent defender joins from Llanelli plus last season’s left back Harri Rowe, 18, on loan last season from Aberystwyth has signed on the dotted line.

In midfield, Miles John, 25, has been recruited from Mangotsfield United who competed in the BetVictor English Southern Division One South last season. Central midfielder Kurtis, 20, has transferred from Pontardawe.

Up front they’ve been strengthened with the experienced services of goal predators Marcus Griffiths, 30, from Penybont and Tyler Brock, 20, the latter was at Briton Ferry last season.

Jones is happy with how things have been shaping up in summer pre-season training sessions: “I’m delighted the way preparations are going, with all the new faces coming in they’ve settled well with our current squad members.

“They appear to have a good work ethic and there’s very good banter flying around in the camp.

“Most importantly the players have good understanding, good experience and technical ability.”

Looking ahead Jones has high expectations of what he wants and added: “I’ve recruited well which in all honesty has been very busy for me driving up the M4 regular out of season to get these players in.

“We assessed where we fell short last season and with the support of the board have managed to sort that out, I feel by bringing players who have won trophies, championships and played at higher levels!

“This was the DNA we needed to improve! So, I’m delighted.”
Jones is determined to have a decent crack at the title.

“We’ve assembled a decent squad and I want nothing less than promotion.

“We are acquitted for it.”

This season the supporters can expect a brand of free-flowing attacking football as Jones explains: “Our approach is to move the ball well, create and open gaps and space to create goal scoring opportunities.

“We will play a quick moving game, in and out of possession!
But patience is the key. I’m experienced enough to know that.”

The Bluebirds’ first league game of the season is a home fixture on Saturday, August 17 against Caerau Ely and the game will kick off at 2.30pm.
