Carew beat St Ishmaels by 89 runs

Carew stayed on course for a top three finish as they out played St Ishmaels with bat and ball on Saturday.

After making 230-6, The Rooks restricted Tish to 35-3 and eventually bowled them all out in the 42nd over to secure maximum points.

Away skipper Phill Cockburn won the toss and opted to field, but thanks to openers Tim Hicks and Tom Davies Carew were on 92-0 when the first wicket fell, the latter bowled by Andrew Pawlett for 40 (four fours).

Hicks went on to hit 10 fours and a maximum before Pawlett again had a hand in a wicket, taking the catch off the bowling of Nicholas, but Carew kept building as Nick Davies added 28 (four fours) and Sion Jenkins later cracked 34 off 24 balls (four fours and two sixes) before being run out.

It was again Pawlett whose fielding dismissed him and the spinner finished with 3-74 in an eventful 12 overs, but 18 not out in 12 balls from captain Shaun Whitfield (three fours) helped push The Rooks up to an imposing total.

Tish then never recovered from falling to 35-3, although opener Harry Nicholas showed real patience to eventually be ninth man out for 44 (three fours).

There was a brisk 28 off 25 balls for Brennan Devonald and No 10 Archie Smithies finished 16 out after a six and two fours - but Carew were always in control via Sion Jenkins (1-18), Tom Davies (3-32), Barry Evans (2-17), Tim Hicks (2-20) and Aaron Hinman (1-42).

There was also a very tight spell from Tudor Hurle, who finished 1-9 off seven overs as Carew took 30 points.
