Ella Wintle, from Ysgol Y Preseli, has been recognised for her contribution to Dyfed Schools Athletics over several years.

Dyfed Schools Association in November 2015 decided to set up an annual Glyn Davies award in memory of Glyn who had been treasurer of Dyfed Schools AA for 16 years.

The award is given annually to the Dyfed School athlete/s who has contributed most to Dyfed schools in athletics or cross country in that year.

Dyfed Schools across all four areas in the district were invited to nominate athletes who in their view contributed to the success of Dyfed Schools in the first half of 2019 (athletics, cross country or sportshall athletics)

In the past two years, Ceredigion duo Lili Church and Beca Roberts as well as Ysgol Dyffryn Aman's Alicia Samuel were the recipients.

In 2019, Wintle won three gold medals in the Welsh schools’ athletics championships in Cardiff. She won the junior girls 200m and 300m championship and was a member of the Dyfed relay gold medal winning team.

She was the Dyfed junior girls team captain which won the Welsh schools junior girls team trophy.

In the Dyfed schools’ championships in Carmarthen in June, the Preseli pupil won the year 9 100m, 200m and 300m events.

She was awarded the Frank Davies memorial trophy for the best performance by a female athlete in the 2019 Dyfed schools’ championships.

Ella in 2019 competed for Welsh schools in the 300m in the British schools’ athletics international in Swansea and was ranked number 1in Wales in the under 15 200m and 300m and number 2 in the 100m event.

As a year 8 pupil, she won three gold medals (100m, 200m and relay) in the 2018 Welsh schools’ championships and competed for Welsh schools in the relay in the British schools’ athletics international in Grangemouth Scotland.

Having also competed for Dyfed schools in the Welsh schools’ cross country and combined events, the Pembrokeshire Harrier was a worthy winner of the 2019 award.

The presentation of the trophy was made in a recent school assembly by Secretary of Dyfed Schools AA, Dr Hedydd Davies.
