Haverfordwest County 7

Taffs Well 1

Haverfordwest County moved back to the top of the table on goals difference following this seven-goal demolition over Taffs Well at the Bridge Meadow.

The Bluebirds goals came thick and fast and all were scored in the first half, Ben Fawcett 2, Kieran Howard, Kurtis Rees, Marcus Griffiths, Jack Wilson and skipper Sean Pemberton all found the back of The Wellman net.

Incredibly the hosts failed to add any further goals in the second period, but full credit to the visitors they did score a late consolation effort through Dylan Jones who made no mistake with a simple six-yard tap-in.

In the 10th minute, Fawcett opened the scoring, the lively striker cut in off his wing and struck a low shot into the far corner.

Two minutes later and The Bluebirds added their second through Howard with his well-executed set piece from the edge of the 18-yard area flew in the top corner.

A minute later and Fawcett bagged his second of the game for the third, Griffiths’ vicious shot was parried by Callum Davies and he drilled home the rebound.

In the 23rd minute Kurtis Rees was on target for the fifth, the industrious midfielder striking a low shot in the far corner.

It was one-way traffic as Griffiths added the fifth in the 34th minute, Fawcett cleverly cutting back a pass from the by-line which his co striker stroked into the net.

On 40 minutes, Wilson added a superb sixth, he weaved into the box and struck a rising shot into the roof of the net.

On the stroke of half time the hosts added a seventh. Howard’s free kick wide on the left was glanced in by skipper Pemberton.

Harri Rowe and Leon Pemberthy made useful cameo performances in the second half, but the game was won, and the hosts lost some desire as they claimed a comfortable three points.

“We were untouchable in the first half,” said delighted Haverfordwest County manager Wayne Jones.

“Fawcey was outstanding and really clinical. Disappointed we didn’t finish better in the second period, but no one looks at the performance only the result, and the result reads a big win.”
