Division Three West A: Cardigan 49-15 Neyland
Neyland went to Cardigan with a very much a forward based squad, with only three backs named in the starting XV.
Inevitably they went down to defeat at the King George Vth Memorial Ground but did manage three unconverted tries and dug in well in the circumstances.
They trailed 15-0 when a burst from prop Chad Monk set up a penalty which The All Blacks kicked to the corner, and from the lineout that followed it was Monk himself who got the try.
Trailing 25-5 half time, the visitors also managed second half scores from full back Henry McBeth and outside half Shane Phillips, but were unable to get the fourth try that would have yielded a bonus point.
Neyland were unable to stem the tide at the other end though and Cardigan tries were claimed by winger Cerith Griffiths (3), No 8 Tom Taylor, Kieran Greenland, and Llyr Jones (2), who notched a personal haul of 19 points as he also chipped in with four conversions and two penalties.
“We should have got a bit more out of the game than we did but with 12 forwards on the field it was always going be difficult,” said
Neyland assistant coach Steve Evans - who came on for 15 minutes himself.
“But the boys put in plenty of effort so we can’t complain.”
