There was no shortage of Pembrokeshire involvement in the Pro 14 Boxing Day derby at Parc Y Scarlets – but no doubt which two players walked away the happiest.

Flanker Josh Macleod and winger Ryan Conbeer were both instrumental as Scarlets hammered Ospreys 44-0 in what was a record win for the home side over their rivals.

For Conbeer there were two more memorable tries to add to the 20-year-old’s growing tally. With Scarlets leading 13-0 just before half time he latched onto a cross-field kick from No 10 Angus O’Brien before cutting inside to score.

Another strong run in the second half led to him being high tackled by opposite number Luke Morgan, who was duly yellow carded, and just moments later Conbeer had his second try with another sharp finish by the corner flag.

He later broke clean through in midfield but was halted by Ospreys full back Cai Morgan as he went in search of a hat trick of tries – but it was still a night which further enhanced his growing reputation.

And the same can be said for Macleod who was again outstanding at open side flanker in both the tight and the loose exchanges. And his performance was also capped with a try as the 23-year-old buried over in the corner second half.

Other tries from Steffan Evans (2) and Kieran Hardy, 12 points from the boot of Hardy and a conversion from O’Brien, all added up to a resounding win for Scarlets.

But for Ospreys it was a desperately disappointing night. There were second half appearances from prop Simon Gardiner and Rhys Fawcett, who are ironically at the region on loan from Scarlets, but by then the contest was long done.

Injuries prevented further local involvement with James Davies and Rob Evans both ruled out for Scarlets, while Sam Parry travelled with the Ospreys squad but is yet to return from his lay off.
