Pembrokeshire Football League fixtures for Saturday, January 4th:

Division 1 (2pm):

Fishguard Sports 3-1 St Clears

Frustration reigned for both these sides on Saturday as they had home games called off.

In fact Fishguard have not played in the league since November and host a St Clears team that desperately need something. They remain second bottom on two points and follow this up with games against Hakin and Monkton.

The Sports were in decent form before their enforced break and midfielder Steve Lewis continues to be pivotal to them going forward. The visitors will have to find a way to shut him down to get a result here.

I think a home win.

Hakin United 5-2 Clarbeston Road

Dismantling Monkton was huge for Hakin last week, and they now have what they'll see as three very winnable games coming up.

Nicky Woodrow played 30 minutes for the second XI last Saturday as he comes back from injury, but The Vikings were clinical enough anyway against the champions. When on song there are few more effective forwards than Ashley Bevan and he was joined by centre back Jonathan Fawcett in giving a standout display.

Clarby didn't play and haven't done in the league since beating Carew on November 30th. Playing the top sides tends to bring the best out of them though and as always Richard Bevan and Ben John will cause problems up top.

Containing Hakin at the other end though, will be hard.

Merlins Bridge 1-2 Goodwick United

An already big game has now got bigger for Bridge.

The Carew defeat means they have lost in the league twice while the top three have all lost just once. Another defeat here and suddenly they're playing catch up.

Crucially, they will go into this without the suspended Chris Ormond and will want Adam Hawkins back after he missed last week.

Goodwick meanwhile, are likely to field Jordan Thomas against his former club if available after being away.

That Monkton result last week has left Wayne O'Sullivan's side joint top on points and having already beaten The Wizards in the West Wales Cup, will know the significance of winning here.

Yet again it should be tight between these two. But the absence of Ormond and Goodwick's pre-Christmas form edges me their way.

Narberth 2-3 Monkton Swifts

It was a setback for Monkton last week as their 100% record went at hakin, and they have a tricky place to bounce back at.

Narberth's form has been mixed thus far but they are a very capable side when on song, and Lloyd Hughes was instrumental last week as they battled back to win 3-2 in Neyland.

They will be without the suspended Joe Gouldingay for this though.

Like Bridge, The Swifts have to respond they'll hope to have Dylan Davies back up front with Ben Steele. It will be a test for the champions, especially after last week, but one I think they will come through.

Pennar Robins 2-2 Neyland

Pennar boss Chris Lloyd would have seen that Saundersfoot game as must win last week and his side delivered. Craig Asparassa and Thomas Grimwood both shone in the 6-1 win and suddenly The Robins are five points clear of the bottom two.

Neyland hover just a point above though after letting a half time lead slip againt Narberth. Youngster Max Bowman-Davies impressed and yet again Jason Griffiths struck, but they are imply not getting the results they need in the league.

This could be a battle. And it wouldn't surprise me if it ended all square.

Saundersfoot Sports 1-6 Carew

Carew's win over Merlins Bridge on Saturday was a timely reminder of what they're capable of, but while inconsistency has plagued them this season I expect them to win again here.

The return of Jack Christopher paid instant dividends as he headed the winner on the weekend and he does increase their aerial threat a lot. Scott Richards is now also back after an injury lay off.

Saundersfoot desperately needed a result against Pennar on Saturday but were hammered 6-1, and at the moment a very difficult season shows no sign of improving.

I'll go for The Rooks with room to spare here.
