Two Pembrokeshire Leisure swimming teachers were nominated for the Swim Wales Awards 2020 at Cardiff on Tuesday (7th January).

Amy Brumby from Milford Haven Leisure Centre was nominated for Swim Wales Educator of the year and Tim Dyson from Pembroke Leisure Centre was up for Outstanding Contribution to Learn to Swim in Wales.

Amy is Milford Haven Leisure Centre’s Marketing Officer, a Trainer Assessor and Mentor for the Royal Life Saving Society. As a Swim Wales tutor Amy trains new swimming teachers all over Wales.

Tim is a swimming teacher with over 30 years’ experience who has taught generations of children how to swim at Pembroke Leisure Centre. He also runs the Pembroke Junior Octopush Club (underwater hockey) which many of the children he has taught joined to continue their aquatic journey.

Pembrokeshire Leisure follow the Learn to Swim Wales framework. The framework encompasses the full aquatic journey from Bubbles (adult and child), Splash (water confidence), Waves (main learn to swim area) and Nofio Ysgol (school swimming) to allow a child to be safe, confident, competent and motivated to get into the water!

“Nearly 3,000 children across the County have swimming lessons at our leisure centres which is absolutely brilliant,” said Julie Ashley-Jones, Business Improvement Manager for Pembrokeshire Leisure and Culture.

“We also have a great adult learning programme and encourage anyone who wants to learn or improve their swimming to contact their local leisure centre to find out about the classes available.”
