Second Division Cup Round 1: Herbrandston 2-3 Milford United

A close range finish from Tom Blockwell in extra time eventually settled this dramatic tie the way of Milford United.

With the teams locked at 2-2 after 90 minutes, Blockwell broke Herbie hearts by latching onto a loose ball in the six yard box and firing home.

In adverse conditions, it was the home side who enjoyed first use of the wind and they took the lead just three minutes in when Sam Houston unleashed a 40 yard shot that sailed over Milford keeper Jack Nicholas and into the net.

Five minutes into the second half Herbie doubled the lead when centre back Adrian Rees rose highest at a corner and planted in a header.

There was drama aplenty to come though and on the 55 minute mark Leigh Galdo was penalised for handball in his own area but from the resultant penalty, Ashley Mathias could only hit the post.

Two minutes later the hosts were down to 10 men as Daniel Munn saw red for a two footed lunge on Morgan Picton.

Moments afterwards The Robins were awarded a second penalty when Blockwell was hauled down by Rees and this time, Mathias fired past Owen Thomas to make it 2-1.

Milford then piled on the pressure and twice Morgan Picton struck the woodwork, while two goals were ruled out for offside. But then with Herbie just seconds from hanging on for the win, Mathias shot clinically from 25 yards and found the bottom corner.

Herbie keeper Thomas made some decent saves in extra time but couldn’t stop Blockwell’s winner - as The Robins set up a quarter final with Merlins Bridge 2nds.
