The 25th annual Team Pursuit took place on Sunday, January 26.

Starting off at Crymych Leisure Centre in strong winds and driving rain, the first runners went off around 11am and then every 10 seconds until all 290 runners were away.

The start times were pre-set in the computer database, and finish times taken from the same clock that started the race. The start times were deducted from finish times and then added up for the five members of all teams, with the lowest time winning.

Not long after the last runner was on their way, the first runner was back in from the 6.7 mile course.

This year’s winners were Men’s Pembrokeshire Harriers in 3:13:49, a course record. Female winners were again Amman Valley Ladies in 4:22:41

In the mixed team, who had to have at least two women, the winners were Pembrokeshire Harriers in 3:47:53.

With the extra sponsorship from JCP Solicitors there were two veteran prizes, all had to over 40 on the day. Male winners were Pembrokeshire Harriers Vets in 3:50:55, female winners were again Sarn Helen Women Vets in 4:48:406

The idea of the Team Pursuit was to run as part of a team, being passed and passing others, and encouraging each other along the way.

Since moving to Crymych Leisure Centre, and the last Sunday in January, the number of teams entering has risen to a cap of 60 from all over the old county of Dyfed. Two tea s pulled out on the day leaving 58 teams of five -290 runners.

Organisers thanked the Leisure Centre staff and Ben Lake, the Plaid Cymru MP for Ceredigion, who presented the prizes.

Roland and Pat Sherwood, along with Roland’s daughter Bicigleta and son in law Alan, did a sterling job with the time keeping.
