In his latest column, Fraser Watson looks at Ianto's nerves of steel, roles reversed for Pembroke and Tenby, Valero's power, and a tribute to Johnny James.

And after his first go was washed out by weather, Ben Hathaway has another hit at the scores........

Ianto's nerves of steel:

At amateur or semi-pro level, having a goalkicker who nails pressure shots can get you a long way.

Narberth's Ianto Griffiths did just that on Saturday to give The Otters a last gasp 20-19 win over Cross Keys.

In years gone by, Sean Gale's side have become well accustomed to winning close games in Championship, and despite not being at their best on Saturday you don't come back like that without a winning mentality.

I said earlier in the season the landscape of the Championship had changed and now a top six finish (as opposed to top two) would represent a good season for Narberth.

By holding his nerve on Saturday, Griffiths has left them well placed to achieve just that.

Roles reversed in KO Cup semi final:

Pembroke's hard fought win over Aberaeron Saturday set up a KO Cup semi final with Tenby United - which will be intriguing for many reasons.

Over time, most amateur clubs endure a rise or fall and this will be role reversal from seasons gone by.

In recent times, it has been Tenby based in the higher division, with the Seasiders proving the natural step up for players from Crickmarren who want to play in a higher league. Many of those players have now returned from Heywood Lane and others have followed.

Now it's the Scarlets who go in favourites and in reverse from last time the sides met, they will have to be wary of underdogs with a point of prove.

A local derby, a final place at stake, and ex-teammates v ex-teammates.

It should be an interesting semi final.

Valero power up:

The Pembrokeshire side has already been revealed, and Valero have named their squad for the game on March 7th at Bierspool (1pm kick off).

And it's not too shabby either.

The interest in the day has been high and Scarlets have now pledged to have players in attendance. Chris Oliver is confirmed as referee and Andrew Miles will be one of the touch judges.

Above all though, a big amount will hopefully be raised to support brave Owen James and his family.

Valero: Geoff Martin, Johnny Palmer, Dean Wilcox, George Bellmaine, Max Hayward, Will Scriven, Mark Boswell, Craig Lewis, Loz Britts, Darren Potter, Mike Davies, Harry Owen, Will Swales, Alex Peace, Harry Dawe, Jake Griffiths, Jason Scarfe, Jonathan Rogers (capt), Jack Price, Lewis Davies, Shaun Dalling, Simon Hooper, Adam Cawley, Ben Hathaway, Paul Miller, Jordan Gwilliam.

Coaches: Gareth Scourfield, Lee Scourfield, Nathan Williams, Chris James. First aider: Huw Baker.

Fitting tribute to Johnny:

Saturday sees the second leg of the Johnny James Cup take place between St Davids and Llangwm.

Fittingly, The Saints have their 'old boys day' afterwards and I wouldn't want to be the person responsible for collecting empty pint glasses.

James was everything you want a local player to be. Loyal, committed, gritty, hard and (sometimes) fair. He'd mix it with you on the pitch, and mix with you in the bar after.

Don't expect the hosts or The Wasps to put on 80 minutes of champagne rugby but it will be hard fought as both sides seek a rare win. And regardless of the score, there will be singing afterwards and enough beer drank to sink a ship.

And Johnny James would have been bloody proud to know all of that will be in his name.

Guest predictions:

Ben Hathaway got nothing right, or wrong, last time out.

With rain about this Friday he'll hope not to be scuppered again, but at least there is no Ciara, or Dennis, or whatever storms are called these days scheduled for Saturday.

And like a good Pembroke Dock club man he's backed the Quins to win, and neighbours Pembroke to lose....
