Division 1: Pennar Robins 1-4 Hakin United

Hakin United gained a comfortable victory against Pennar Robins played at Bush Camp in strong gale force conditions.

It was 1-1 before The Vikings finally scored three goals in the final quarter to seal the points, which sees them second in the table, a point behind leaders Monkton Swifts, but Scott Davies' side have a game in hand.

It was the hosts who could have opened the scoring early on when striker Josh Hicks skied a shot from just outside the box well over Martin Langdon’s crossbar.

The Vikings played with a strong wind at their backs in the first period, they were well on top but failed to capitalise as they constantly over hit through balls to skipper Ashley Bevan and Justin ‘Skinny’ Harding up front.

However, Scott Davies’ side finally broke the deadlock in the 30th minute, Leon Luby struck a terrific long-range wind assisted free kick which flew in the top corner of Gareth Stewart’s goal.

Hakin would have felt disappointed they hadn’t scored a few more in the opening 45, but to Chris Lloyd’s Pennar troops’ credit they battled and defended resiliently.

Pennar equalised on the hour, Dano Kitts' wicked corner fell to team-mate Luke Phillips who bundled the ball into the net from close range.

Minutes later Craig Nicholson restored The Vikings’ lead, the midfielder made  no mistake from inside the box following good work from Adam John and Camron Thomas.

In the 80th minute Shane Walsh struck from six yards, again another excellent assist by young Camron Thomas as the visitors led 3-1.

Luby was tripped inside the area for a penalty, up stepped Harding who struck firmly from 12 yards, but keeper Gareth Stewart read it perfectly, pulling off a superb save to deny the striker.

Minutes later Harding made amends for his disappointing penalty miss - the striker latched onto an unselfish square ball from Gareth Fawcett, coolly side-footing home to complete the scoring.
