Division 1: Goodwick United 4-3 Fishguard Sports

Substitute Rhys Dalling scored a late winner for Goodwick United who settled this high scoring derby affair against Fishguard Sports at Phoenix Park.

Conditions were difficult as the pitch cut up and high winds caused problems.

This was Goodwick’s ninth win from eleven starts whilst neighbours Fishguard slipped to their fourth defeat from nine games.

The visitors opened the scoring in the 10th minute as Lewis Banks slotted a low shot in the far corner of James Gwilt’s net.

The lead was short lived as the hosts equalised five minutes later. Jonny Horgan’s cross was met with by a firm far post header from Steff Williams.

Goodwick took the lead in the 42nd minute as striker Jordan Griffiths buried a low 22-yard drive into the bottom corner.

A minute later and the visitors equalised through a bit of good fortune, Thomas Lawrence’s goal bound shot took a wicked deflection off Matty Delaney and wrong footed Gwilt as the score read 2-2 at half time.

Goodwick regained the lead in the 56th minute when Williams made no mistake at the far post, giving the lively striker his second goal of the game.

Fair play to Fishguard they refused to throw in the towel and were rewarded as they levelled matters in the 66th minute when Patrick Hughes buried his chance from a corner.

At that stage it looked as though this derby could go either way, but Dalling settled matters when the substitute rifled an angled shot into the bottom left hand corner to secure the points for Goodwick.
