It's a tough time for local sport - but the Milford Haven Golf Club junior section has brought cheer by being named Welsh Junior Club of the Year for 2019.

The accolade recognises the growth of the junior section and the way it has developed members.

Junior organiser at Milford, Simon Nicholas, paid tribute to all involved: “There are a huge amount of people and organisations to thank.

“Wales Golf and Alan Jones at Sport Pembrokeshire for all their support and advice, linked in with the Club Professional Elliot Harding who takes all the New to Golf and group coaching.

“A big thanks to our sponsors - local businesses, some with links to the golf club, individual members and sections, as well as parents and family of our junior golfers.

“Thanks to the golf club staff, committee and particularly the current and recent club captains, presidents and secretaries for their unwavering support. Particular praise should also go to the past and present junior captains, our junior treasurer Nigel Roberts and his predecessor Owain Picton, and junior secretary Alex Starling.

“The members at Milford deserve great praise for the support they provide the juniors, but ultimate thanks and congratulations must go to the players and their families."

In 2019 Milford juniors were prominent at all Dyfed fixtures and Junior Opens in the County.

The Welsh Junior Tour and Wales Mini Masters was also littered with Milford players - as were the national Age Group Championships.

“Some of our members travel all over competing in regional and national tournaments and our junior captain Hollie Jenkins represents the club and the country all over the UK,” added Simon.

“The junior section is such a great place to spend time and we should all be very proud.”
