Whitland Ladies RFC held their end of season virtual presentation last night.

In the eight team Premier League, the Borderettes were seventh when the coronavirus pandemic halted the season, but had three games in hand on the two sides immediately above them.

However, after discussions with the WRU they have opted to start with their young squad in Division 1 and aim to rebuild.

Natalie Walsh, Millie Harry and Katie Thicker were also instrumental in organising the recent club challenge which raised £13,000 for poignant causes.

"It wasn't our best season - but with a young team going forward and our experienced players like Natalie Walsh and Sally Windsor we aim to finish in the top three in our new league," said team manager Sue Davies.

"We don't know when we'll restart but the girls have started their own pre-season training."

The Most Improved Player Award last night was won by Liwsi Ebsworth, who Davies said: "This girl has moved up from Under 18’s and has stepped up.

"Whilst building her confidence, she has become a great rugby player. She is a determined individual, who gives her everything in training sessions and rugby games."

It was Windsor, who has returned to the club after University and travel comitmments, who was voted Players' Player: "She is a committed and motivated player, attending training and the few games that we had this season, and always putting her body on the line.

And the Player of the Season was Marged Williams, who has been prolific for the side on the wing.

"She has been with us at Under 15s and 18s and now the seniors for two seasons - and played for Scarlets Ladies this season too," said Davies.

"Her agility, speed and rugby knowledge are such assets to her and Whitland Ladies. Her tacking skills are above and beyond, whilst running lengths of the field to score tries.

"Another committed player - throughout training and game time."

The squad had been due to start their new season with an away game at Seven Sisters on September 6th, but it is highly unlikely the season will begin on that date.

Other sides in their league next season are Burry Portwe, Gwernyfed, Haverfordwest, Llantwit Fardre, Senghenydd, and Ynysddu.
