Tenby AFC have endured a rise and then a fall since 2000 - but now are rebuilding well.

After folding in July 2017, the Seasiders were forced to start again in Division 5 for the 2018/19 campaign. But with a young squad, they have just sealed back to back promotions and will now be in Division 3 for whenever the next season starts.

But one man there for all the highs and lows has been Dene Hurlow. And he is better placed than most to select the club's team of the 21st century.

"I started in Tenby in 1996 coaching my eldest son's junior team - and have helped with the senior sides from 2003 to now," said Dene.

"It has been a rollercoaster journey with promotion, relegation, winning the Senior cup, total collapse and now rebuilding with successive promotions and resurrecting the second team. And I wouldn't have missed it for the world."

Dene was helped with selection by Mike Lewis and Peter Fearne, and it is of little surprise that the majority of the squad is made of those who won the Senior Cup with the club in 2013/14.

GOALKEEPER - DAFYDD JONES

Very good keeper who also played for Carmarthen Town Youth when he was with us, but travelled down on Saturdays to Tenby. Had a good command of his box and was an excellent shot saver.

RIGHT BACK - CURTIS HURLOW

A reall asset with an ability to play centre half, right back or in midfield. A very good man on the ball and could also tackle, cover, and read the game well. Came through the club’s junior system.

CENTRE BACK - PHIL CATTLIN

One of the old heads in our squad when we won the Senior Cup. His experience of Welsh League football was invaluable after he returned to us to finish off his career. ‘Catts’ was very strong at the back, good in the air and a threat at attacking set pieces.

CENTRE BACK - ALEX HARLEY

Could also play midfield but settled into his defensive role with us with style, using his heading ability alongside his powerful tackling and good positional strength. Alex joined the club when he was six-years-old and was instrumental in us becoming a force in Division 1.

LEFT BACK - SONNY PHILLIPS

Sonny joined us at the age of eight and I watched him come through our junior system. A natural left-footer who could read play well - and very good good at pushing forward in support of an attack.

CENTRE MIDFIELD - CALLUM PROCTOR

A very hard working player and no nonsense tackler. Would run all day for us and another key member of that Senior Cup winning squad.

RIGHT WING - DARYL MANSBRIDGE

Another proven goal scorer at the club who returned to help us win Division 5 last season. Can play on the right or centre of midfield, where he can run all day and support his front men and defence. Strong in the tackle and a good passer of the ball.

CENTRE MIDFIELD - RICHARD PERRY

An experienced player from the cup winning team who loved being heavily involved in midfield. Was an apprentice with Bristol City and came to us from Cwmbran – and used his football brain to telling effect.

CENTRE MIDFIELD - BILLY VAUGHAN

Billy loved playing in the No 10 shirt for Tenby and had skills aplenty with the ball at his feet, and he loved nothing better than running at opponents and putting a defence under pressure. Was also able to cover wide open spaces and scored vital goals, including the first in that cup final. Moved away the season after and was a big loss.

LEFT WING - JEROME MANSBRIDGE

Like brother Daryl, helped us win Division 5 last season. A natural left-footed player who can also play left back, and has always given us balance on that side of the pitch. Very quick and adept at getting in crosses – and will grab his share of goals too.

STRIKER - SAM CHRISTOPHER

Sam is another who played all of his early football for Tenby and scored the vital two goals that saw us into our first ever final. When he was with us he combined his genuine nose for goals with electrifying pace – and was a real handful for any defence  space. Still doing the business now with Carew.

SUBSTITUTES

JORDAN RICHARDS

Another who came through the club’s system as a very good striker and scored goals season after season. Very good at creating space for others with his unselfish running off the ball and playing well in Division 1 for for Monkton now.

DEAN ROSSITER

Vastly experienced after playing in the Welsh League for most of his career. Came to us late in his playing days but was still a real force to be reckoned with.

GARETH LEWIS

Mr Dependable. Marshalled the defence well, was solid in the air and had a lovely left foot.

MANAGER - MIKE LEWIS

One of the best players of his era to come out of Pembrokeshire and played for Cardiff City Youth, Pembroke Borough, Haverfordwest and other teams. Also managed clubs like Haverfordwest before taking over at Tenby and leading us to that cup final win. Had a wealth of experience and was a good influence on the players.

ASSISTANT MANAGER - PETER FEARN

A former goalkeeper with a number of local clubs, he also managed the likes of Pembroke Borough and Milford United before coming to Tenby. Was a very vociferous touchline coach but made sure players knew what he wanted from them. Worked well with Mike Lewis.
