It is a series designed to take athletes to the absolute limit.

After having the majority of their events curtailed for 2020, MUUK-Adventures have announced an Ultra Running Series for 2021.

It will consist of three ultimately grueling races, and large chunks of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path to boot.

We want to be positive and look forward to 2021,” said Fintan Godkin, of MUUK.

“And give those that like to take challenges to the next level something to aim for and reignite any loss of interest - or even build on any new sense of motivation that has crept in over these strange times.

“So our aim to create an Ultra Running Series in west Wales, that will see runners battle it out over a number of distances.

“The series will be made up of three separate events, which will run over an eight month period and will offer great spot prizes for stage winners and a significant cash prizes for the series winners and placements.”

None of the events will be for the faint hearted. On Saturday, March 27th, the 40-mile Ultra will run alongside the annual Ras Dewi Sant marathon, half marathon, and 10k races. There will be timing cut offs along the way with 35 of the 40 miles incorporating coastal terrain.

Then on July 1st, 2nd and 3rd comes the Marathon des Cotes. Entrants have three days to cover the entire 186 miles of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path with daily cut offs and mandatory rest periods.

The series will then culminate on December 4th, with a continuous 24 hour running event around St Davids. This route will not be trail but on tarmac and roads, with athletes simply aiming to complete the loop as many times as they can, and therefore go as far as they can, in that period.

Each of the three events will have its own unique points scoring, and come December, the overall winner will receive £2000. There is also £500 on offer for finishing second, and £250 for third.

There will also be separate spot prizes for the age group winners.

Although the series will have a prize fund, each event will be treated as its own race, with medals, awards, and other such extras," added Godkin.

“The events are open to all abilities and for many the challenge will be in finishing but for others it will be the lure of winning the series.”

The company are currently taking bookings, while entrants can also pre-register for one, two, or all three events without having to commit payment yet.
