JD Cymru Premier: Haverfordwest County 2-2 Newtown

Danny Williams struck twice as Haverfordwest County made it two points from two games against Newtown tonight.

The Bluebirds were under pressure in the early stages as Jamie Breese fired inches wide, but the hosts came to life 15 minutes in when Ben Fawcett flashed a shot across goal, and then moments later forced Newtown keeper David Jones into a low save.

Corey Palmer’s deflected shot also went past the far post, but it was the visitors who went ahead 34 minutes in.

A long throw into the box found its way to Nick Rushden, who headed in from close range.

Fawcett again threatened as he curled a left foot shot over before the break, and Sean Pemberton nodded in only to be ruled offside.

But 12 minutes into the second half Wayne Jones’ side levelled with their first goal of the season – a Facwett shot was blocked by Jones but in the ensuing scramble the ball was handled, and Williams buried the penalty into the top left hand corner.

But in the 74th minute Newtown went back in front - skipper Kieran Mills Evans controlling a ball first time before firing in from close range.

The lead only lasted three minutes though, as sub Jack Wilson curled in a brilliant right footed cross that Williams flicked in from six yards out.

The Bluebirds will now host Connars Quay Nomads next Sunday, September 27th.
