JD Cymru Premier: Bala Town 1–2 Haverfordwest County

A dramatic injury time goal from Jack Wilson gave Haverfordwest their first win back in the JD Cymru Premier at Bala Town.

The teams were locked at 1-1 after Danny Williams had cancelled out a Chris Venables penalty, and seemed set to finish that way before Wilson came off the bench to curl in a sublime winner.

Fixtures are coming thick and fast for Wayne Jones and co at the moment, so inevitably there were again changes from the team that went to Barry in midweek as skipper Sean Pemberton returned and new signing Dan Summerfield came in.

But the visitors were under the cosh in the opening moments as Will Evans headed over for Bala from a corner, before Ollie Shannon crashed an effort against the bar.

Away keeper Steve Hall also did well to keep out a header from Chris Venables and at the other end, Williams had the ball in the net but his effort was ruled out for offside.

Then after 24 minutes, Bala broke the deadlock as Scott Tancock was penalised in his own box for a shove in the back on Venables, and the forward picked himself up to beat Hall from 12 yards.

Tancock was booked for his troubles.

But nine minutes later the Bluebirds were level. Just moments after Williams wasted a great chance, blasting over from a Cameron Keetch free kick – the Cardiff City loanee grabbed his third of the season in style.

Summerfield broke down the right and delivered a diagonal ball to the edge of the area – and Williams times his run perfectly to loop his header over Alex Ramsay and into the net.

It was the fifth time the Bluebirds have levelled this season after trailing, and it ensured they went in 1-1 at the break.

It was Bala who enjoyed more possession in the early stages of the second half although without really creating any prize openings, and Jones sent on the two Jack’s Britton and Wilson, as he looked to add some impetus in the final quarter.

Sure enough, Corey Shepard had a sight of his goal as he volleyed wide, and then both Wilson and Williams were narrowly off target with long range efforts.

The latter made way for Marcus Griffiths late on before Bala began to press again, as a Steve Leslie free kick deflected into the hands of the grateful Hall.

Will Evans then headed wide but jut as the game seemed to be petering out for a draw, Wilson struck in the third minute of injury time.

Kieran Lewis drove at the Bala defence and played in Wilson, who cut in from the right and curled a superb effort past Ramsay.

It meant a dramatic first league win of the season for the Bluebirds, and a huge confidence boost ahead of a home game against Penybont on Tuesday.
