HERBRANDSTON’s new minister says he is impressed with the village’s community spirit, and is looking forward to meeting local families.

Rev Andy Bookless recently took over as minister for St Mary’s Church, which has linked up with the parish of Hubberston’s three churches, in Hubberston and Hakin.

Formerly, St Mary’s was part of the peninsula grouping, with churches in Dale, Marloes, St Brides, St Ishmaels and Robeston West.

Rev Bookless said he had received a warm welcome so far, and was looking forward to the village’s busy calendar of events, from fundraisers and friendship groups, to carnivals and coffee mornings.

He is also looking forward to helping his new congregation, and sharing in the highs and lows of their lives.

Asked why he felt the church had remained an important part of village life, he said: “The spiritual side of life can really help people find positive guidance in their lives.”

Apart from work, the father-of-two enjoys most sports, especially football, table tennis and cricket, and is a passionate Sheffield Wednesday supporter.

He also enjoys walking, and has more recently taken up researching family history.

Assisting him in his work locally will be 26-year-old curate Rev Josh Maynard, and curate Rev John Cecil.
