A NEW weekly food co-op could help people in the Neyland area eat healthier and save money.

Hazelbeach Community food co-op is launching this Saturday (March 14) at 10.30am at the Mission Hall, Hazelbeach, Llanstadwell.

The co-op will be taking orders for bags of fruit and vegetables, which will be delivered the following week.

For just £4 a bag, or £1 for half a dozen free range eggs, eating better for less was never easier.

Simply pay when you place the order, and collect the following Friday, between 10.30am and 12.30pm.

Alice Coleman, west Wales food development worker , said: "Eating at least five portions of fruit and vegetables a day is a key part of a healthy diet and we all know that eating healthily not only makes you look and feel better - and achieve a healthy weight - but will also reduce you and your family's chances of getting diabetes, heart disease and some cancers.

"A food co-op is a simple system through which people can access affordable, quality fresh fruit, vegetables on a weekly basis at a local community venue.

"Plus, getting your fruit, vegetables and salad from a food co-op could also save you around £200 per year."

The co-op will be run by local volunteers, working alongside local suppliers.
