A Scottish family were left facing Christmas without their six-year-old son after he collapsed and died while out with his sister and grandmother.

Brodie Williams was walking his sister, Sophie, to a dance class with their grandmother on Wednesday when he collapsed in a street in Methil, Fife.

An ambulance crew went to the scene at Methilhaven Road and battled to revive him. But although it is understood that they managed to resuscitate him briefly, they were ultimately unable to save his life.

It is believed that he may have suffered from a severe allergic reaction.

Parents Heather and Cliff paid tribute to their "happy wee boy". In a statement issued through Fife Police, they said: "Brodie was a happy wee boy who loved making everyone laugh and playing with his trains. He attended Methilhill Primary School with his big sister Sophie, eight.

"He was adored by his mum Heather, dad Cliff, sister Sophie, his grandparents and all his other relatives."

Pupils and staff at Methilhill Primary School were stunned by the news. Headteacher Charles Small said: "Brodie was a lovely little boy who will be missed by everyone who knew him, and our thoughts are with his family."

Fife Police said that the little boy, from Kingskettle, had died "suddenly and unexpectedly" from what was believed to be a medically related incident.
