NOEL WHELAN has vowed to repay John Robertson's show of faith by helping Livingston stave off relegation . . . starting with a win against Dundee United today.

The 31-year-old has joined until the end of the season as a free agent along with former Celtic midfielder Colin Healy.

The ex-Coventry and Aberdeen forward admitted to an alcohol problem earlier this year and spent time in the Sporting Chance clinic, formed by the former England and Arsenal centre-half, Tony Adams.

Ahead of his new side's Premierleague visit to Tynecastle today, Whelan said: "I heard John wanted me when I was in the clinic so that gave me a good incentive. I'm excited, this is a new challenge for me . . . and hopefully I can repay John's faith in me."

Robertson is today hoping to avoid a record 10th league defeat in a row but said: "We have signed two top-notch players. Two of the best players this club has had.

"Colin has had two horrendous injuries, but came back from those and we feel he can help us to the end of the season."
