POLICE in Milford Haven are investigating after a seagull was shot dead by an air rifle.

Officers were alerted to the incident in Howarth Close by local residents, who were aware of shots being fired during the week starting April 20.

As a result, a seagull which had been shot in the head, was found outside the front of a block of flats. It is understood the bird was perched on the roof of the flats when the shots were fired.

Enquiries are still ongoing to establish who fired the shots.

Investigating officer PC 227 Norman said: “All species of gulls are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.

“It is an offence to intentionally kill a seagull.

“There are also firearms offences related to discharging a firearm in a public place.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Norman at Milford Police Station.
