A GREAT week in the vale began with the launch of this year’s Asparagus Festival at the Fleece Inn, Bretforton. Everyone was there from Aspara-gus to the Asparamancer and I was delighted to have my fortune read. The Asparagus Festival is as much a part of Evesham as asparagus itself and its wonderful to see this festival return again this year with even more to offer.

On Saturday, I helped Rotary attempt to ‘Bridge the Gap’ which is a fundraiser, organised by Rotary and involves a lot of the local schools and groups designing paper chain links in an attempt to reach between the two bridges in Evesham. Lastly, on Saturday afternoon, I went to Evesham’s First Truck show – and what a show! 187 trucks of all varying sizes, ages and makes; I was fortunate enough to join the judges as they went around and it was fascinating to meet the people connected to each vehicle. Well done to all the organisers for bringing another brilliant event to Evesham.

On Sunday I joined ‘Caring Hands in the Vale’ for the thanksgiving lunch, which was a way of thanking all the volunteers involved with this much needed and respected charity. Lastly I attended the St Georges Parade of the Evesham District Scouts and Guides. At the end of the parade there was a short service held in the market square. It was a pleasure to join them for the service and afterwards meet some of the children and young adults involved. It is great to see the scout and guide movement thriving.
