THE Pembroke mayor is no longer considering standing as a Labour county councillor following allegations of benefit fraud.
Councillor Keith John McNiffe (pictured) denied a charge of failing to notify the authorities after a change in circumstances relating to disability living and mobility care allowances. at Haverforwest magistrates court this week.
It is alleged that Cllr McNiffe was overpaid more than £9000.
Mr McNiffe, who was elected to Pembroke Town Council as member for the Monkton ward in 2004, has suspended himself from Pembroke Town council activities and voluntarily stepped down until the result of the upcoming court case.
He will next appear before magistrates for a pre-trial review on April 12.
Cllr Dave Edwards will be the new Labour candidate.
